ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE OCCUPATION OF THE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSTY OF ATHENS.

Approximately 150-160 people have been detained as a means of terrorizing the people in order to prevent and deter others from participating in demonstrations marking the anniversary of the murder of a 15 year old youth in Athens.

A year after the murder of Alexandros Grigoropolous by the Greek state, the regime enforcing army, the police, are attempting to seize every corner of the city.

The uniformed murderers have invaded the social centre, “Resalto”, in Keratsini. They have attacked youths and have blockaded all entrances and exits to places of social and political struggle. They have surrounded Exarhia and the Polytechnic, and continue to make large numbers of arrests and detainments.

The puppets of the regime, the media, are transmitting state propaganda and as a result are creating an atmosphere and terror.

One year after the social upheaval of December 2008, the system of oppression and exploitation is once again attempting to re-assert its authority. The Government is attempting to enforce a state of emergency in order to drown out social outrage and enforce the silence of a cemetery on society.

Due to the seizure of the city we are occupying the Polytechnic university.

We are calling every person who wants to resist to do so by any means possible

We will keep the space, and are showing solidarity with all those who face state persecution.

We demand the immediate release of all those arrested and detained

EVERYONE ON THE STREETS TOMORROW AT 13.30pm, PROPYLEA

WE DON’’T FORGET

WE DON’T FORGIVE

EVERYTHING CONTINUES

Remember, Remember, the 6th of December: Northeast Day of Actions in Solidarity with the Greek Anti-Authoritarian Movement.

Remember, Remember, the 6th of December: Northeast Day of Actions in
Solidarity with the Greek Anti-Authoritarian Movement. Stand Against State
Repression, From the Left or Right.

In Boston, we will meet on the Copley Square green at 4pm and march to the
consulate building (on Beacon st, between Arlington and Charles st)

The Greek insurrection began almost a year ago. As we approach the
anniversary of its beginning, the day when a young anti-authoritarian was
shot dead by police in the anarchist "free neighborhood" of Exarchia in
downtown Athens, we must ask ourselves what happened, what's happening,
what failed, and, most importantly, what worked? As we reflect, we must
also recognize our roles as U.S. anarchists in solidarity with this
insurrection. We can all remember how we felt last year when we heard
Alexi was killed and that Athens was burning. We held solidarity actions
then, and we must demonstrate again.

The Greek insurrection led to the fall of the right-wing government and
the election of a socialist government. While its president calls it
“antiauthoritarians in power,” and the Minister of Public Order claims to
have many anarchists as good friends, on the new administration's first
day the Greek Socialist Party invaded the anarchist neighborhood of
Exarchia in Central Athens with 1,000 police. Since then, repression of
anarchists has been constant. The socialist administration attacked
November 17th demonstrations commemorating the 1973 rising against the
military junta, and have maintained a media blackout in Exarchia, whose
residents they continue to raid, detain, arrest, and pummel. These actions
will not go unpunished.

Regardless, the movement in Greece is only gaining steam, and the stage is
set for another Greek December to remember. Already, 400 schools and 30
universities have been occupied, anti-authoritarians are carrying out
"urban guerilla" actions against banks, government institutions,
multinational corporations, and the repressive police. Anarchists have
occupied several news stations to spread their messages, and workers have
declared dozens of strikes across the country.

On the other hand, the politicians, vowing to not let Greece fall into
"chaos" again, have announced a "Zero Tolerance" plan, deploying 6,000
officers in Athens to repress the inevitable uprising. "We want to send a
clear message, we won't tolerate a repeat of the violence and terror scene
in central Athens, we won't hand Athens to vandals," Citizen Protection
Minister Mihalis Chrysohoidis told reporters today.

Our comrades in Greece, those who fight for their freedom and prepare now
to escalate their struggle, need the support and solidarity of those of us
across the world who believe in their cause.

It is a time to once again muster the feelings of love and rage in order
to hold another day of solidarity on Sunday December 6th, 2009 the
anniversary of Alexi's death. We will hold actions and demos at Greek
consulates, school occupations, and candle lit vigils so the spirits of
our comrades are not forgotten.

In Boston, we will meet on the Copley Square green at 4pm and march to the
consulate building (on Beacon St, between Arlington and Charles Streets).
See you there!

Violence erupts during Athens march

Violence erupts during Athens march

The police killing of a teenager unleashed the country's worst riots in decades last year [AFP]

Police and protesters have clashed in Athens as the city marked the first anniversary of the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy which led to Greece's worst unrest in decades.

Riot police, hoping to avoid the lengthy riots of last year, fired tear gas at thousands of demonstrators as they marched through the capital and other Greek cities on Sunday.

Greece's government had deployed more than 6,000 police officers onto the streets of Athens to avert a repeat of the severe rioting that hit the capital and major cities last year which caused millions of dollars of damage.

'Sporadic trouble'

Sporadic scuffles between stone-throwing protesters and riot police broke out around the Athens march.

"The murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos was not only a heinous act, it was a lesson for us all ... An obligation to try and ensure a fairer society for our younger generation"

Karolos Papoulias, Greek president

Police in full riot gear fired tear gas to disperse small groups of hooded youths.

"We are using teargas on several fronts where youths are damaging stores and setting fire to garbage bins," a police official, who requested anonymity, said.

"It's been a year since police murdered the boy and the government which caused the murder has collapsed but nothing has changed in terms of police brutality," Panos Garganas, a university employee, told the Reuters news agency.

Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips, reporting from Athens, said: "There has been trouble during the last two or three hours very much centered around the university buildings in the centre of Athens.

"Under Greek law it is very difficult for the police to go into the university buildings and make arrests. Hard lined groups were armed with many bricks, stones, Molotov cocktails, and catapults and they fought running battles with the police around these buildings.

"Meanwhile the main march to commemorate the shooting of this 15-year-old boy, who was killed by the police last year, went through the city centre past the parliament building, and on the whole there things seemed to be peaceful. So, it's been a mixed picture - there has been sporadic trouble in parts of the Greek capital but the whole march itself was varied in tone," he said.

Police raid

On Saturday, Greek police arrested more than 150 people in Athens, to head off trouble on the anniversary.

Greece's government has warned it will have a zero tolerance policy towards violence [AFP]

The arrests took place after hundreds of people rallied in the central district of Exarchia, where Alexis Grigoropoulos was gunned down by a police officer on December 6 last year.

The youths reportedly attacked police officers with stones and petrol bombs.

In a raid in the western district of Keratsini, police detained at least 20 people.

The group of teenagers arrested included at least three Albanians, seven Greeks and five Italians.

"Five Italians and seven Greeks have been arrested, while dozens have been detained," a police official said.

"Some were throwing stones at police and others were armed with wooden sticks."

Zero tolerance

Greece's government also said it will not tolerate a repeat of last year's riots while Karolos Papoulias, the president of Greece, pleaded for calm ahead of the planned protests.

"We will not tolerate lawlessness and attacks on innocent citizens"

Theodoros Pangalos, Greek deputy prime minister

"The murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos was not only a heinous act, it was a lesson for us all ... an obligation to try and ensure a fairer society for our younger generation," he said.

Theodoros Pangalos, the Greek deputy prime minister, said: "We will not tolerate lawlessness and attacks on innocent citizens."

Grigoropoulos was shot dead by a police officer who claimed he fired into the air whilst under attack by youths.

Two police officers have been charged with murder and attempted murder for the teenager's death and are scheduled to stand trial on January 20.

Fears of violence have been heightened by reports that groups of anarchists from other European countries are planning to join the protests in Athens.

‘We’re gonna rule this town tonight’

Thousands of anarchists are battling 6,000 cops in Athens tonight. University building near parliament seized and anarchist banner flies from roof. Motor cycle snatch squads beingknocked over and bikes seized. Petrol bombs, barricades… ‘We’re gonna rule this town tonight’.

Demonstration in Hamburg

Today an unauthorized demonstration took place against repression and police violence, as well as in remembrance of Alexis Grigoropoulos and all the victims of capitalism.
There were about 100 people at the demonstration. The demonstration was loud and strong. Police did only attack the demonstration once by driving into the demonstrators with a car. Besides, there were some identity controls. No one was hurt or arrested.
There were slogans shouted like "No Justice, No Peace, fight the police", "Polizia Assassini"...Some firework was used.

Solidarity with the Greek uprising and all liberated spaces!
Greetings to all the fighting people in Greece and everywhere!

Testimony of Eyewitness of the Assasination of Alexis Grigoropolous

Public testimony of an eyewitness of the assassination of 15 year's old boy Alexis Grigoropoulos from Greek Police that lead to December riots and general social revolt that still going on in Greece. The girl that she speaks in this text videotaped from her balcony above the spot of the assassination of Alexis the short-video that became world famous. She will be witness against the cop Ep. Korkoneas in his trial. This witness is a fragment from a bigger text and is included in the book "WE ARE AN IMAGE FROM THE FUTURE / The Greek Uprising of December 2009” that will be released in U.S.A. in February 2010 in U.S.A. from AK Press and is edited by A.G.Scwartz and comrades from Void Network.

Testimony of Eyewitness of the Assasination of Alexis Grigoropolous

I am an Exarchia resident whose balcony overlooks the spot where Alexis Grigoropoulos was murdered

I’m not so involved in any political activities. I’m not an activist. I can only speak about the killing. I can’t take a position on all the other things that happened because all these other things are very complicated and I don’t have clear thoughts on them.

Exarchia has always been an alternative, counterculture neighborhood. For many years it was a frequent occurrence that something would happen on a street corner in Exarchia and suddenly everyone from the cafes and the bars and the sidewalks would pour out into the streets and run to see what was happening. Usually it was incidents between people and police, some fights, confrontations, insults, shouting matches. In the old times it happened very often. Then there was a period when this didn’t happen so much, but in the last years it has started becoming more common again.

The reason that I found myself with a camera on the balcony that night was because I had always wanted to film one of these confrontations that are always taking place below my window. But every time I would come to my balcony to see what was happening, I got delayed. By the time I went back inside to get my camera it was too late, it was already over. This happened to me many times. And the last time that it happened, I said to myself, the next time, first I’ll grab the camera and then I’ll go to the balcony.

And in the end the next time turned out to be an incident that I never expected could happen. Two years earlier a friend visited me from Germany and he mentioned to me that the police here seem very provocative and dangerous. Even though he was a tourist, the way they behaved made him feel less safe, they made him feel endangered. And when this friend heard about what happened on the 6th of December, he wrote that he wasn’t at all surprised. But I was.

All the previous times, I never got scared observing these fights between people and the police. It was part of my everyday life in Exarchia. It was something commonplace. Because the Exarchia locals express their negation of authority firmly, and they believe in it, whenever something was happening I didn’t need to take a position or make a stand because it was just a part of life in this area. Of course in the ten years that I’ve lived in this flat, I’ve observed year after year a gradual increase in the police presence, an intensification. Policemen began to appear on every corner in the neighborhood, in groups, and also they were armored. The feeling of observing armored police in full riot gear carrying pistols, tear gas guns, and machine guns—it was getting more and more intense. In this period the slogan started to appear on the walls: “on every street corner there are police, the junta didn’t end in ’73.”

On 6 December I was here in the apartment with my German friend. He was cooking in the kitchen and I was in the living room. Suddenly I heard a bang. I hadn’t heard any noises before that. Nothing was happening in the streets, no shouts, nothing. Without warning there was just a bang. It seemed to me that it came from down the street, on the lefthand side. Despite the surprise this time I remembered to grab my camera first. I was not in a panic, I didn’t feel anything unusual, I just calmly got the camera and went to the balcony. I didn’t think anything extraordinary had happened. I looked outside, but I didn’t turn the camera on in the beginning because nothing was happening. I saw a few youths down to the left, sitting like they always do. The young anarchists are always hanging out down there, although this night there were fewer than normal. And on the righthand side, up the street, I saw a police car parked at the corner. One moment after the police car drove off, I saw two cops coming back on foot, and this was very strange to me. I asked myself, what are they going to do? They arrived at the spot where the car had been before, and started provoking the kids, saying come on you pussies! When I heard this I shouted to the German guy, come look! The police came and they’re starting a fight. He would get a chance to see this phenomenon of the Greek cops provoking a fight by insulting people. It’s normal that the police speak bad to people, but this was too much. It was provocative because they parked the police car and they came walking back and shouting challenges. That’s how normal people start a fight. It was like a personal fight, not the usual provocation by police.

Immediately after that they both took out their guns, both the cops. This was never mentioned by the media. And I got one surprise after another. First they came back on foot, then they started a fight by insulting the kids, then they took out their guns, and then they took aim, in a moment when there was no challenge and no threat, there was no fight or confrontation going on. And they shot. I heard two shots but I can’t say if both of them shot or if one shot twice. It’s possible that one of them shot twice. And they turned around and just left, simple as that, as though nothing had happened. Me, until that moment, it didn’t occur to me to look to the left, to the group of kids, because it was all so incredibly strange, the behavior of these two policemen. There was no need to look to the other side because nothing was happening there. And then I heard the people in the street shout that a kid had been shot. And then I felt panic. I ran inside, grabbed the telephone and called an ambulance, and I went down to the street. I saw just one kid lying there, and I was shocked. Everybody was shouting and many people were fainting. The kid wasn’t dead yet, and a doctor had appeared and was trying to administer first aid. Then the ambulance arrived and he died inside in the ambulance, I think.

I found out from other people that the first bang had been a concussion grenade. Apparently someone had thrown a plastic bottle at the police car and yelled an insult as it was passing and the police responded by throwing the grenade from the car. That’s not so unusual here. It’s normal to shout, everyone in Greece is shouting at each other. So I’m sure the policemen hadn’t been threatened, they weren’t defending themselves. Really, if a policeman feels a serious threat, he doesn’t drive down to the next corner then walk back to clean up the situation. Usually when the police feel a threat or feel like they’re under attack, they drive off, they get out of there. The police were not on the defensive at that moment.

I went back up and tried to watch the video on my computer, but I couldn’t because I was missing some program. So I knocked on my neighbor’s door and said I recorded something but I don’t know what it is. Can we put it in your computer so I can see what it is? And we saw the video, and the way I felt, I had never felt that way in my entire life. We called down all the people from the entire neighborhood, everyone, we all came down onto the streets, and the energy, the atmosphere, was one of rage. It was overflowing all the streets, everywhere people were pouring out of their houses onto the streets. Everybody.

The riot police had the gall to come here, back to this corner where the first cop car had stopped, and where the shots were fired. And of course everybody started shouting at them, young people, old people, normal people, everyone was shouting at them to go the hell away.

About two hours after the shooting, it’s impossible to say exactly how long but it was about two hours. The secret police came. I was back in my house listening to the radio and the TV, which were saying there were riots in Exarchia, that the police had been attacked and fired in self-defense, but this wasn’t true. And the riots hadn’t even started yet. And from my window I saw men without uniforms looking at the walls of the buildings around the shooting. The secret police had come to search for the shell casings and the bullets, to investigate the area. I was with my neighbor, and I told him I was going down. I wanted to react somehow to what they were saying on the news. So I went down and I said that what they’re reporting on the television wasn’t true. One tall old guy came up to me with a greasy smile, and said, yes, and who are you? And I felt an amazing fear. Because I’m very naïve, I just felt the obligation to go down and say the truth. But this guy, he terrified me. So I backed off and said, no, who are you? And he told me his name and his position. He was the chief of the secret police agency, and he was in charge of the autopsy and investigation. They took my name and telephone, and they asked me if I was going to come to the central police station to testify, and I said yes.

He asked me what happened. I brought him to the exact point where the policemen were standing when they opened fire. And exactly at that point was where they found the shell casings. And they asked me if I had a vehicle, if I could drive myself to the station. And I said no and they told me I would come with them. I said I hoped the people wouldn’t bomb the police car on the way, and the chief laughed and said have no fear. He directed me to where a large group of riot police were gathered, and I found myself in the middle of a MAT squad. It was right at that moment that the people attacked. The chief disappeared immediately, he ran away and they left me while the people were attacking, and I saw all the guns that the police had and I flipped out. I couldn’t focus on anything, I felt how powerful theHe asked me what happened. I couldn’t focus on anything, I felt how powerful people were, they were full of rage. I can’t remember if they were attacking with stones or molotovs or clubs, only that they were overpowering and I had to get out of there. I ran away by myself and came back to my house.

Of course I was expecting that they would call me for an interview as a witness. But they never did. I spoke with a lawyer of the movement, Yianna Kurtovick, she’s one of the members of the Network for the Defense of Political Prisoners and Immigrants. And she brought me to the examining magistrate. I had to go to find the judge because the police never called me to testify. And after I testified, some days later, they closed the whole area to make the official report to prove whether the bullet hit the kid directly or if it richocheted off the ground. That was the official story, that the one cop had fired at the ground and the bullet bounced up and hit him.

The magistrate, the photographer, and the secretary came up to my balcony to take photographs. The chief of the secret police was down in the street. I called out to him, Oh hello, you left me alone last time in the middle of a riot. And he answered, I didn’t abandon you, it was you who was afraid that the rioters would burn us alive. And I said to him, Don’t tell lies in front of all these people.

I remember telling myself some years ago that I lived in a military camp, with all the police around Exarchia. Now I say that I live in a warzone. What happened in December, I never believed that it could ever happen. Despite all the feelings of military occupation provoked by the police. For me, there was always a limit, always a final line, and when the police crossed this line, it was a qualitative change. Everything changed. Everyone understood that there was a certain horizon to the situation and beyond it everything was different. We have passed this horizon. And now I say that it is not a conflict anymore, now it is war.

In comparison with before December, everything is more powerful. The assassination of Alexis was like the cherry on top, the last straw. Now there is no more tolerance for the police. The killing was so outrageous, so far beyond the limits, that the people reacted and still they continue to react. They are getting empowered from the rage that was expressed at the moment of the killing. There were many other problems too besides police brutality, and these problems continue, but the people don’t tolerate these other problems either, not anymore.

So I’ll be in the trial of the policeman who killed Alexis. I was worrying about how I’ll feel towards the defense lawyer, because he’s defending a very bad person. Then I started to worry about the outcome of the trial, because if this cop ends up with only two or three years in jail, I don’t know how I would react. How do you react to the decision of a trial like this? Because many terrifying things are happening, and we hear about them and see them on the news, but it is very different when you saw it with your own eyes. It is not just words, it is a clear truth for you, there is no doubt about this, there is no distance from it. It is such an absolute truth, the assassination, it is like if you steal something from me in front of my eyes and then tell me it never existed. It is not something you just heard about from somewhere else. And I fear very much that if they find this cop not guilty, maybe my reaction will get me thrown in jail. I think about this all the time, as I prepare to testify.

In memory of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, Ian Tomlinson, Jean Charles de Menezes, Carlos Juliani and so many other people killed by police.

The only way to find out if we can swim, is to dive in the water...

If we have one thing to keep from last December, this is that the silence has finally been broken. Together with the social outbreak a great need for discussion broke through. We saw in the most barbaric way that the fairy tale we are being told, about “no dead ends in democracy” is nothing but a cheap lie of the authorities. There are plenty of dead ends. We see them in our dozens of everyday problems.

So how do we, as a society, react to that? We accept the “fairy tale”?

There is an exit from this system that destroys out lives and does nothing more than recreating and dealing with the corruptness created by its own self.

This exit exists in each one and all of us together. We just have to keep listening the message that came out from last year's insurrection.

Which message?

That the only way to liberate ourselves from the horrible reality we are living in is to start deciding for ourselves by ourselves. We have to realize that the logic “vote every four years and I' ll do the best for you” is the logic that maintains this rotten system.

Everybody is responsible for their lives and the society they are living in.

We have to recognize this responsibility and start making steps in order to cut the umbilical cord that still connects us with all kinds of authority. Steadily we have to start changing our surroundings, in order to manage to abolish calamitous institutions like the representative democracy, and to create other institutions based on the equal participation of everybody. These are the paths last December opened. And we need to continue walking on these paths without fear. In every neighborhood, every school, every university, in working spaces, for the immigrants, for the environment...without fear in everything concerning out lives.

It's better to decide for ourselves by ourselves, even if we make mistakes.

If so, the mistakes will be ours as well. We will learn, we will keep on, we will stand on our own feet

7 and a half years to anarchist comrade Elias Nikolaou!

7 and a half years' imprisonment imposed by the Grand Jury in Thessaloniki on 26year old Elias Nikolaou, for the explosion of improvised incendiary devices outside the building of the Municipal Police in Evosmos, 2 on the morning of January 13, 2009. The Court decided to suspend the right to appeal.
After a hearing of two days, which ended late Thursday afternoon, the court found the 26year old guilty of possession of explosives (unanimously) and explosion hazard to people and things (a majority of 4-3 votes), and recognized mitigating circumstances in his former good character.
In his defense the 26 year old denied the charges, saying that a conspiracy was set up by the police against those of the antiauthoritarian movement. Members of the antiauthoritarian movement on the side of the accused, denounced the court's verdict, shouting slogans, while the withdrawal was completed without problems.
Meanwhile, the Alternative Initiative of the Thessaloniki Bar, announced its strong condemnation of police presence at the Court to mark the trial of Elias Nicholaou. The provocative presence led to abuse and civil rights lawyers recalled trials conducted in the emergency Military Courts of the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile and the Military Courts of the Turkish junta.
Indeed, outside the Chamber of the trial there were two sets of riotcops prohibiting entry to those who were not "liked" it said in the communication, and even lawyers had to show their identity in four consecutive "blocks" in order to enter.

NOTICE! THE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY IS OPEN

Faced with political announcements and rumors of the closure of the universities from Thursday, December 3, given the protests a year after the state murder of Alexander Grigoropoulos, comrades in Athens decided to come and stay and with their physical and political presence keep the space open, preventing its closure.
The University and all colleges are large estates of any government and rectors shut them whenever they decide. They belong first and foremost to struggling people. This is why it was decided by the state to close schools in order not to let them be used by comrades as places of assembly, fermentation, counter information and actions.
We are keeping the University open and call tonight, Thursday, Dec. 3, to a 9 pm debate - Meeting for working out and coordinating collective action to fight the next day.

Fascist bomb in Salonica, racist pogrom in Athens

Last Monday the fascist parastate made a double attack in Greece with the bombing of an antiauthoritatian centre in Salonica, and the pogrom against the arab community of Neos Cosmos in southeast Athens.

The fascist para-state has waged a double attack in the two major Greek cities, Athens and Salonica, on the night of Monday 23 November with police providing impunity to the perpetrators and the bourgeois media systematically under and misreporting the events.

In the case of Athens, a mob of fascist thugs attacked the arab community of Neos Cosmos, a southeastern neighbourghood of the metropolis, in the area of the proletarian blocks next to Syngrou avenue after 21:00. The fascists shouted racists slogans while beating the arabs on the street and smashing their shops, looting the tills and destroying their merchandise. The arab community was quick to mobilise a counterattack, chasing the fascists and forcing them to seek refuge in a block. At that moment strong riot police forces arrived which attacked the arabs, and let most of the fascists to escape. The cops then moved to detain 6 arabs and two fascists who claimed to be accidentally in the area playing basketball, and thus set free. Besides, the greek police in an attempt to cover the traces of its para-state accomplishes published a communique that claimed the clashes were between rival arab gangs. For many hours this story monopolised the news, and had to be revised in gross embarrassment after the intervention of left-wing parties and anti-racist organisations. The Radical Left Coalition has accused the police of being “provocatively inert” allowing the fascists to escape. Three arabs are reported to be in hospital wounded. The attack comes as a climax of racist bigotry on the side of the extreme-right, which seems to be losing its ability to control the area of Agios Panteleimonas where with the support of the police it had created a white-only zone through stabbing and beating people of color.

In the case of Salonica, the attack against the antiauthoritarian centre BuenoVentura came in the early hours of the morning, causing only material damage to the premises. Although initially the media reported the story as an anarchist attack against a cafe, once it became obvious it was a fascist bomb attack against an antiauthoritarian centre all reference to it stopped. The centre is located in a central spot of the city and is an active venue of social action and counter-information. What follows is the communique of the centre:

Regarding the ignition of an explosive device at the free social space “Buena Ventura” (Thessaloniki)

At the dawn of November 24, at 03:55 am, the free social space Buena Ventura (which hosts the assembly of the group Solidarity – Antiauthoritarian Movement) came under attack with a strong explosive device.

The way in which the device was placed reveals much about the morality of the perpetrators, a morality of murderers – since they did not just attack Buena Ventura, but the entire neighbourhood. In short, the windows of neighbouring blocks of flats were smashed by the explosion in a radius of 15 meters, while shattered pieces were whammed all around, posing an imminent danger to the lives of neighbours. Shattered pieces also hit three cars, which also highlights the murderous nature of the attack since any random passer-by could have been hit by them too.

The attack comprises the tip of the iceberg – part of the framework of repression and of the blooming of para-statist action over the decades. It begins with the activity of the para-statist group “Karfitsa” in the 1960s and comes all the way to the placing of the explosive device at Buena Ventura.

It becomes painstakingly obvious that free social spaces are being targeted – as approximately six months ago the haunt of the “Struggle Movement” (Sfentona) was also attacked. The method of the attack and the construction of the mechanism reveals that the perpetrators are the same, naturally raising the question of who will be next and – what scale of attack they will come under.

Such attacks comprise expressions of a fascist-type logic that aims at the terrorising of people in struggle; a logic that finds refuge and legitimacy on a practical level in the coordinated attack launched by authority against everything last year’s December has given birth to.

This witch haunt, the zero-tolerance schemes, the demonization of the anti-authoritarian movement both from mass media and from the state (from the mouth of the “Citizen Protector”, Minister Chrisochoidis), offers the strongest alibi for the activity of such circles, within and in parallel to the action of the state.

In our face, the entire movement was attacked, since we consider the choosing of our particular group for the attack entirely random. In our place it could have been anyone who has chosen the paths of struggle and resistance.

It could have been any free social space, haunt or squat. Through us, they attacked all those parts of society that revolted in December, since the symbolism of the date cannot be overlooked: the attack came only days after the mass mobilisations of November 17th and ten days before December 6th, marking a year from the assassination of Alexis Grigoropoulos.

Our response cannot be other than the one given by society itself during last year’s revolt: The state and its dogs won’t scare us.

Nov 25 2009

Update: Today after a press conference by the Buenaventura centre, the bourgeois media made a u-turn, portraying for the first time the attack as “ultra-right paramilitary”. Forensics demonstrated that the explosive device was a pipe-bomb filled with metal shrapnel which would have caused certain death to any passer-by. The media claim that the explosion was felt all around the centre of the city and that the police in making investigations amongst extreme-right groups.

2nd Update: As a response to the fascist violence against the arab community of Neos Cosmos in Athens, a protest march took the the streets around the scene of Monday’s pogrom. It must be not

solidarity arrested demo lisbon april 2007‏

On the 25th of April 2007 happened in Lisbon an anti-authoritarian demo against fascism and capitalism. Close to 500 people took part on a march through one of the city’s richest areas, where paint was thrown at shops, banks and a riot cop van and slogans were spray painted on walls. To this shamelessness the guards of democratic order replied with a police charge and beatings against the demonstrators and everyone who were passing-by. As a result of this charge and of a few Hollywood-style chases throughout the city centre 11 individuals were arrested, charged among other things with insults and assaults on police officers. On the 7h of December 2009 the trial is due to begin, at the court Campus de Justiça de Lisboa.

We know that the real point is more than a few damaged windows and offended cops. It is the attempt to grab the totality of life and of using all the tools we want in the struggle against a social order that consumes and destroys individuals, our relationships and the world we inhabit. It is precisely because this democratic order can not tolerate all the beautiful and wild things and people that still exist that in the last few years we´ve seen and felt a growing criminalization in the media, and the persecution by the forces of repression, of many of our and others’ actions and daily activities.

In the struggle for the liberation of our lives, we know who our comrades are and who are our enemies, and we go on finding all the others with whom we can meet in the joy of revolt. The solidarity with the accused is not limited to that court nor to the dates set by others: it must spread and become part of a struggle that doesn’t have as a point of reference the steps taken by repression, but the steps that we in our own rebellion want to take.

Their attempt to stop us through fear, to isolate us or to make us change our discourse can only have as a result the merciless attack to a power that has no borders.

Fuck Seattle! Fight Now!

SDAC releases new poster

Ten years after Seattle many in in radical movements are looking to that day as an example of how we should organize, and this approach has led us down a route of tactical repetition. In the days since Pittsburgh it has become clear to many of us that not only have we begun to see another way of fighting, we have begun to construct a whole other way of approaching action, an appraoch based in fluidity, affinity, and the ability to shift with circumstances. Gone are the days of the large scale mass protest with tactics planned down to the last detail, plans that can never adapt to any change in circumstance. Seattle was 10 years ago and even though it is an action that inspired many of us to get involved the conditions have changed. From the expansion of the police state to the construction of our spaces around the concept of “security” the state has become that much more pervasive. In the midst of this we have begun to find new ways of organizing, fighting, and moving that are more adapted to this shifting terrain. The static tactics of the past no longer are effective against an ever shifting state apparatus which has spent the last 10 years figuring out how to defeat these tactics. It is time to stop looking into the past and start seeing ourselves as the harbingers of the future.

Call

The catastrophe is real and climate change is one of its many symptoms. The COP15’s inevitable talk of “saving the world from the climate crisis” is an elaborate hoax to disguise the COP15’s true purpose: to restore the legitimacy of global capitalism by inaugurating an era of “green” capitalism. A new rhetoric of “saving the climate” will exist to justify their repression, their fortified borders, their colonial resource wars. To give the Emperor new clothes. Our response to this astounding lie is an uncompromising and absolute NO to their system.

More has to be shaken than our holiday habits to sustain the world for times to come. It would be foolish to pin our hopes upon the very people who continue to kill off the planet for money. At Copenhagen, they will argue over how to properly create a market to commodify and so pollute the biosphere, dispossessing millions of people from their land to profit from destroying what remains of our earth. Governments and corporations will not sacrifice their growth to reduce carbon emissions, or only do so in order to create a new authoritarian regime for themselves.

The entire rhetoric of the “climate crisis” and the “financial crisis” is a cynical maneouvre by the state spin-doctors to deny the all-encompassing crisis of self-declared civilization. The COP15 will only attempt to hide the war that capitalism is waging against all life on the planet, a war that has spread across the entire globe for the last five hundred years, a war that encompasses the totality of even the oceans and atmosphere. In the midst of war, one does not talk of management and “technical solutions.” You cannot fight a war by pretending the war does not exist, by blinding yourself to repression and becoming complicit in accepting the false-promise of a petit bourgeois tranquility. Instead, one recognizes the enemy. One chooses a position. One fights.

Only by ridding ourselves of those who claim to be representing us and by defeating the ideology of endless economic growth, industrial production and consumption can we take control of our lives and planet. It is time to state: we are going to consciously attack the structures supporting the COP15: we will break through the lines of their police; we will refuse to negotiate with warmongering governments and the embedded media; we will refuse to side with sell-out NGOs and all the would-be managers of protest; we will refuse all governments and governance and not just de-legitimize the present ones. It is time to state why we think that insurrection is needed to actually begin the change everybody is so desperate for. Acting together in fundamental opposition to those in power we might get a first glimpse of the richness and opportunities possible when ideas, experiences and concepts are shared amongst people from all over the world.

On with the international brigades!

It’s social war not climate chaos!

11.30.2009 Antifa set up NSF ambush

A post by the National Socialist Front, based in northwest Chicagoland, describes two members fighting off six antifa after an attempted ambush on November 23.

Like most other neo-nazi reports, that's not how we heard it.

Piecing together overheard rumors and reading between the lines of the NSF report, it seems the NSF wasted several months communicating with someone claiming to be interested in starting a chapter within Chicago itself. The two neo-nazis met with this person at a restaurant on the southside, but at some point they realized what was going on and either flashed or drew a knife. The restaurant owner noticed this and called the police as a brawl broke out. One antifa may have been stabbed, but the injury was minor.

The police arrived and detained, possibly arresting the NSF members for their weapons. Either way, the neo-nazis probably had to ask the cops for a ride home after discovering their disabled or damaged vehicle.

The NSF was probably looking to start a new chapter to become more public and more aggressive in preparation for their announced "White Pride Worldwide" march, scheduled for March 21, 2010, apparently in Chicago proper. Though based in the burbs, some of their members were seen at a Christian Identity meeting held on Chicago's northwest side several months ago; in the wake of the arrest of Bill White and the collapse of the IL ANSWP, the NSF could be positioning themselves as a dominant faction of the Chicagoland white power movement.

Hopefully, this will cause some hesitation and confusion as the NSF tries to grow, as there are probably a few more false relationships budding under their noses. It shouldn't be long before this WP group devours itself, just like many before it

Two major pathways, yesterday and day before yesterday in response to the eviction housing project in central Berlin

Continued wave of repression against the autonomous spaces in Berlin. The last ten days of heightened confrontation between the State and old occupations. On the pretext of some burning car last week, the police invaded without a warrant in housing projects of Limpigkstrase 14 and XB Limpigk (the words of the cops asked if the arrest was "going to deal with bureaucracy after) and the first building in danger eviction due to litigation with the owner.

On Tuesday, 600 police force carried out the eviction of the housing project Brounenstrase 183, which has sparked protests in the street number.

Course attended by over 1000 people were on Wednesday night, while an even greater progress was made this evening, attended by over 2000 people. The state fared in the center together with approximately equal number of policemen, who were skirmishers throughout the center. The state tried twice making chains to go to the house and blocked by police who threatened to disband. The police presence was particularly challenging following the new Trent repression by exhaustive psachtiri in concentration, armor, running on the side of the road, others to contemplate from scaffolding and vans to block the demonstrators in blocks with no way out, requiring the people to dissolve.

In the week leading up to the Olympic Torch Relay kick-off in Victoria, numerous people, who oppose the Olympics, were harassed by RCMP officers of the Vancouver 2010 Joint Intelligence Group (JIG) – an arm of Olympic Security. We believe that it is likely the 2010 JIG be moving with the Torch Relay and will use much of the same tactics as were used in Vancouver and Victoria to repress Torch Relay resistance across so-called Canada.

article followed by accounts of police visits, (scroll down)

Over the last year-and-a-half people have been visited by members of the Vancouver Integrated Security Unit, security overseers of the 2010 Games, at their homes, family homes, workplaces, or in the streets. Some people choose to file these visits with BC Civil Liberties, many more go undocumented. Our information comes from word of mouth and other written statements.
[Word of mouth continues to be the best form of communication. Speak up!]

In the week leading up to the October 30th 2009, Torch relay kick-off in Victoria, harassment by RCMP JIG members stepped up. From what we can name, 25 people were visited, and harassed with specific references to the Torch. The number of people visited is likely to be at least double. This is reminiscent of the 15 people in 48hrs, who were visited last June. (http://mostlywater.org/approximately_15_visu_joint_intellige...).

The intended effects of their tactics are to intimidate, isolate and interfere. Obviously what they are capable of is not limited to what follows, and will likely change based on context, like with whom and where they are dealing.

In Vancouver and Victoria, the cops used intimidation and an attack on morale as the first line of defense. This strategy is often used to avoid open public use of force. By keeping the more objectionable repression out of the public eye, the appearances of democratic protest are maintained.

The intent to create isolation was shown during harassment, when the cops named off lists of other individuals that they said were 'up to something.' This is probably done for a number of reasons. One that we note, is to drive a wedge between people. This is meant to encourage people to separate themselves from the individuals that the cops are naming. Implied with associating with these individuals is the threat of surveillance and criminalization.

Interference in peoples personal lives was attempted through police visits to family and workplace. The cops, visiting a persons parents can cause friction and disruption in relationships and go beyond this by playing on parental concern to extract information. The cops are known to come to family homes and spout off lies. They have also revealed criminal records to unsuspecting parents.

These tactics are used to create reactions of fear and concern, potentially causing the parent to give information about their kids life over to the cops, with the idea that it is 'for their own good.' Secrets held back from family or friends, but known to police, can be used as leverage; eg. if your parent (etc..) already knows the information, the cops are dis-empowered. And for parents who haven't had much contact with the police in their lives, they should be made aware that the cops lie as a rule and not an exception.

The best solution remains: do not talk to the cops! Not because you have something to hide, but because their primary interest is to defend property and those who have it, at the expense of the natural world and people who have little to call their own.

The strength of our resistance is social. That means it depends on the strength, solidarity and relationships of many of us who are fighting along similar lines and facing common enemies. From community organizers, to indigenous land defenders, anarchists, paramedics (who were pressured back to work by VANOC), and workers coerced into signing away their right to strike, let us strengthen bonds of solidarity, as this is our greatest tool in the struggle to live with dignity and without exploitation.

Vancouver/ Victoria, October 2009:
A Partial Overview of "Vancouver 2010 JIG" Harassment:

INTIMIDATION

In East Vancouver, on October 28th, 2 days before a demonstration in Victoria, scheduled to coincide with the first leg of the Torch, someone was approached after leaving a house. He was on his way to a vehicle, when plain clothes RCMP officers called after him. He did not reply and continued to the vehicle. As they drew closer they began to yell at him, saying "Don't even think about going to Victoria! We know what you are up to. We'll be with you in a swarm the whole way there. If you do go to Victoria, don't do anything illegal. And tell your anarchist-kid friends the same thing!"

After getting in the vehicle, RCMP followed him and a friend around for 20 minutes, disappearing then reappearing and waving, which suggests more than one cop vehicle was tailing the car.

Later that day, 2 individuals leaving another house were approached in a very similar manner while leaving another house in East Vancouver. This time police listed off names of other people and asked if these individuals knew what they were planning. Again the cops got no reply.

ARREST

The next day, Thursday the 29th, three people were approached in East Vancouver by plainclothes cops, also outside a residence. The cops identified themselves as "elite intelligence officers" working on Olympic security and told the three they knew they were "heading to Victoria to protest the torch." They offered the group a ride to the ferry and when the three were unresponsive and continued the cops told them they would be on the same boat and not to think about doing anything illegal, because they would be making arrests.

The officers continued to follow for about three blocks, until the people got on a bus, at which point they called out someone's name. No one responded.

Once on the boat the three noticed the same 2 male cops aboard. One of the three, a young woman, approached people on the ferry sitting nearby and told them that the men were cops who'd been following her since she left home. She went up to the cops and told them to stop following her. It is at this point the cops allege she threw water on them. The cops cornered her. When a bystander approached and asked why police weren't letting the woman go, a cop pushed the man and threatened to charge him with obstruction for getting in the way of his job. Apparently harassing young women is his job description.

Other ferry passengers began to gather around the situation. One bystander was filming on his cell phone and shouted, "This is Canadian civil liberties going down the drain."

When people began to form bonds of solidarity with each other, it was the police in turn who were cornered. Telling the woman she was free to go, they arrested her later when she was alone in the streets of Victoria for "Assault Police." Even with the legal, moral and physical backing of the State, cops remain liars and cowards.

FLATTERY, THREATS AND BRIBES

An Anarchist in Victoria was visited by members of JIG at a house. They told him that they think he is intelligent, influential and they would like to work with him. They said they are worried if windows are broken during the demonstration, children may be injured. Emphasizing that they "...also think there are many negative aspects of the Olympics," they offered to meet for coffee and discuss ways to solve them. And finally they said, "Anyways, you wouldn't want to be beaten and arrested at the demo, would you?"

To which he replied, "How did you know where I am, and how do you know my name?"

"Hey, come on, we have you under surveillance," they returned.

"If you know me so well," he stated, "you know I'll never talk to you." And he shut the door.

The RCMP came to his door once more. When he opened it they told him they were very serious about wanting to talk to him and then pulled out a hundred dollar bill.

The door was immediately closed and locked.

Don't they know it takes at least 150.00 to buy off an anarchist?

Although it might seem like a good idea to grab the bill before you slam the door, the cops could use this against you in a multitude of ways.

SURVEILLANCE

In Victoria, on Saturday, October 31st, the day after the demo, a group of people were sitting together on the beach. Shortly after some friends showed up, a man nearby began "taking pictures of the ocean," positioning another man so he could believably take pictures in their direction.

Going on the gut feeling that this guy was a cop, about 10 people ran up the stairs to challenge them. Already the two men were walking away. The people caught up however, and demanded why they were taking photos of them and, to supply their 'business cards.' The men feigned ignorance and showed the digital photos to the group, revealing that indeed he had not (yet) taken photos of them. Shortly after, another friend showed up and confirmed that these were the cops who'd followed the group on the ferry and arrested a woman two days earlier.

EMPTY THREATS

The threats of the cops were mostly empty. There were no swarms of them following these people around Victoria. They obviously pretended to know more than they really do about their lives. And all the information they did flaunt is easily obtainable.

Let solidarity be our bond as we continue in our struggles and stand together against repression.

Communique concerning this morning's arrest

.

This morning at 6:30 am,[1] the Anti-Terrorist Police (SDAT) allowed themselves to undertake a new arrest among those "close" to the indicted. Judge Fragnoli almost brought us to tears last week when he boasted in the pages of Liberation that he would proceed in this case with all the "humanity" of which he is capable. This morning he again once showed the finesse that we have come to recognize in him: 15 wise-asses from the SDAT to break down the door and aim their weapons at two children, 4 and 6 years old, in their beds. All that just to question someone who had already been arrested on 11 November 2008, based upon the most fantastic elements of the case, which they have had in their possession from the very first day.

Obviously we understand what is at work here. While the two central elements in their accusations, namely the fabrications concerning Julien and Yildune and the witness "X," have largely been sewpt away by recent revelations, the sad clowns continue their flight ahead, using pretexts that are always more laughable to create a diversion. One notes that it was in fact Judge Fragnoli himself who declared to the journalists that he would not make a reconstruction of the so-called night of sabotage. Thus, he definitively seems to what to cover up what each day a little more seems to have been fakes created by the SDAT. We wish him good luck; he'll need it.

Thessaloniki, Greece

- An anarchist group has claimed responsibility for two small bomb attacks on sex shops over the past week in Greece's northern port city of Thessaloniki that caused no injuries.

A group of self-identified anarchists said the blasts were aimed at drawing attention to the sex industry's role in capitalist power structures. It posted the claim online on Thursday.

Greek anarchists frequently target symbols of wealth and state power in overnight arson attacks, but this is the first known case of an attack on sex shops.
