Vandals covered the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro with spray-painted graffiti, marring the monument in an act Rio’s mayor called a “crime against the nation.”
The vandals covered the head, arms and chest of the 130-foot statue, which sits atop the 2,300-foot Corcovado mountain, using scaffolding that had been erected to carry out maintenance work. Phrases scrawled on the statue included
“When the cat’s away, the rats will play,” as well as what appeared to be references to Rio residents who were killed or who disappeared in recent crimes, the newspaper O Globo reported
Paris - action in solidarity with the Greek (and other) comrades
translated from cette semaine
16 April 2010 - 17:19 par ANONYME
During the night between 15 and 16 April, in Montmartre, we covered a DAB of the Société Générale in paint, leaving a slogan o0n the wall opposite "Bim ! War on capital". Further away, another slogan "war on property" was left on the façade of a building society of which one window was broken. With this action,we are sending our solidarity to the comrades in Greece and elsewhere who are struggling against domination in all its forms.
On the 15th of April Costantino, Silvia and Billy were arrested in Switzerland under the charge of transport of explosive material and of having tried to use it.
We affirm our absolute solidarity with them. Their identity and their struggle is the identity and struggle of all revolutionaries, because they fought with passion, persistency and absolute will against the state and capitalism, who has produced wars, death, environmental destruction, exploitation, surpression and profit for those in power. And the control and bio- and nanotechnological development are some of the instruments in the hands of those in power, to preserve these circumstances.
There are three kinds of people: those who stand at the window and follow what happens; those who stand at the window and comment on what happens; and then there are those, who make the things in front of the window happen.
These people – who have understood the necessity to become active to free themselves from the chains of this society – are the irreplaceable ones and we stand on their side.
Solidarity is our weapon! Solidarity with Costa, Silvia and Billy! Solidarity with Marco Camenisch! Solidarity with all political prisoners!
At the moment Costantino is in the prison ‘Amtshaus Bern’, Luca is in the prison of Thun and Silvia is in the prison of Biel.
Who wants to send them letters, postcards or telegrams should do so at this address:
Let’s not forget, that everything is translated to German and that the state attorney, who is investigating, reads everything with great interest.

April 15th, Paris: Solidarity action with the Greek comrades
„On April 15th, in Montmartre, we recovered with color an ATM of the Société Générale Bank (keyboard, screen, slot), writing a graffiti on the close wall “ Bim! War to capital!“. Further, another graffiti„War to property“ was left on the front of an estate agency in construction, which one glass has been broken. With this action, we send our solidarity to the companions in Greece and elsewhere, who fight against domination, and all the forms it can have.
Social war doesn‘t know any truce, nor borders.

Madrid - new attack on police academy of Atocha in solidarity with Greek comrades and Tamara
Thursday, 15 April 2010
fonte: http://madrid.indymedia.org, via culmine
There has been another attack against the police academy in Atocha, with a hammer a window of the main entrance was smashed and sprayed "Freedom to the Greek anarchists" and "Freedom Giannis".
This dictatorship needs obedient servants to protect the interests of the dominant class. Those who rebel against this misery, against this form of life imposed and made artificial will be excluded, tortured, arrested and/or as it the case of Gianniswho like many others has decided to rebel, and refuse to accept the imposition of work, consumerism, false freedom, to accept living death. For this now he is condemned now by all the scoria that serve the State/Capital: police, judges, journalists, engineers, professors... they are our enemies, let's attack them!
Freedom toGiannis Dimitrakis
Freedom to Tamara
Freedom to the rebel prisoners!!

BRITAIN will be hit by waves of "Greek-style unrest" if a Tory or Labour government narrowly wins the election and then tries to push through draconian spending cuts, Nick Clegg has warned.
In an interview with the Observer, the Liberal Democrat leader says he fears "serious social strife" would break out on the streets if a government with limited support at the election on 6 May then raised taxes, laid off public-sector workers and froze wages.
"Imagine the Conservatives go home and get an absolute majority, on 25% of the eligible votes," Clegg said. "They then turn around in the next week or two and say we're going to chuck up VAT to 20%, we're going to start cutting teachers, cutting police and the wage bill in the public sector. I think if you're not careful in that situation… you'd get Greek-style unrest. And so my warning to people who think the old politics still works, is be careful for what you wish for."
In his own constituency city of Sheffield, where there are no Conservative MPs or councillors, and a high proportion of public-sector workers, he fears a ferocious backlash against potential Tory cuts.
"Suddenly these people will be told by a government that has no legitimacy [in the area] in their eyes that this government is going to slash and burn, having promised them something else."
Clegg's fears may have been prompted by the 20th anniversary celebrations of the 1990 Poll Tax riots across the UK (see photo), which spelled the end for his heroine Margaret Thatcher.
Recalled anarchist group Class War earlier this year: "A vast number of confrontations between the people, and the police and government took place all around the UK, building momentum towards the large demonstration planned.
"Class War came to prominence because of the riot in Trafalgar Square. The 1990 uprisings against the Poll Tax seared like wildfire outside every council chamber and Shire Hall culminating in that glorious carnival of insurrection at Trafalgar Square when 10000 riotous working class heroes were cheered on by another 300000 as they torched buildings, fought cops with scaffolding poles and brought the reality of class war to the cosseted rich of the City and West End.
"This was no drunken mob, this was MASS CLASS WAR. As the filth forced Trafalgar Square clear, the mobs went in different directions. East to the plush arcades of Covent Garden, North to the expensive shopping areas of Regent Street, West to Leicester Square. All with the same motive, to show the rich scum exactly what we think of them and what they can expect more of in the future."
from informa-azione / diyfusionxanarcopunk.entodaspartes.net Monday 5 April, in the Nueva Braunau locality about 10 kilometres from Puerto Varas the carabineros surprised -at 2 in the morning - 3 young people who were drinking outside their home. The cops went up to them and told them they were going to arrest them. An argument broke out between the young people and the carabinero. The sister of the victim affirmed: "during the discussion a carabinero threatened to kill my brother and he replied "kill me" , not thinking that he would shoot. Instead the carabinero fired a shot at him." "Pepo", the victim, was shot at close range , less than one metre and fell to the ground. The carabineros did not help the victim and the ambulance arrived after 25 minutes. The ambulance of the police in the area did not intervene. The young punk died after arriving at the hospital. The two young people accompanying him were taken to the police station.

This critique of “Call”was written because it is being talked about among comrades, sometimes not too critically. For the sake of the article’s size, I will refer only to some crucial points that I see as the basis of their proposal.
April 7th, Crépy-en-Valois: workers threaten again to blow up their factory„Without us, no cars“
Since Friday April 2nd, the workers threaten to put in fire the propane tank. They barricaded the factory after they have been circled by the gendarmerie mobile (a fast unit from the army, called for riots). Staff have already set fire to pieces of plastic and rolls of carpet at the factory, sending billowing black smoke into the sky.
Workers at a factory facing closure in France have threatened to blow up the plant unless they are given better layoff compensation. About 50 workers at Sodimatex, which makes car rugs, have been occupying the site in Crepy-en-Valois since Thursday. They are pressuring the company for better compensation. The employees have placed petrol bombs near a large gas tank and are threatening to set them ablaze. The French industry minister has condemned the move and urged the workers to settle the row through talks.
France is suffering a 10 percent unemployment rate — highest in a decade. The car industry is among the hardest-hit by the economic slowdown. Plant closings have led French workers to increasingly militant behavior, with numerous cases of boss-napping over the past year and one other case of a threat to blow up a factory. <>
Negociations in the police sub-headquarter
This wednesday, after a day of negociations, the workers occupied again their place; lighting fire for the night and threatening again to put in fire the propane tank. Obvisously, the negociations haven‘t lead to what they expected. Due to pres, the ‚Trèves‘ company suggested to give them 3200euro, whereas they asked for 21 000euro. Some workers left the meeting, joigning the new occupation, while the negociations went on several hours. …………………………………………….

From tragedy to farce and back again: a few notes on the ongoing trial of Alexis’ murderers
The trial of Epaminondas Korkoneas and Vassilis Saraliotis, the two cops who killed Alexandros Grigoropoulos, has been taking place in the remote town of Amfissa (230 km away from Athens) since mid-February. Away from the chaotic times of Athens, an outrageous cover-up of the murder is being attempted by the cops’ lawyer (Kougias) and largely assisted, it seems, by the court’s judge.
First, the decision to hold the trial so far away from Athens (apparently for security reasons) causes tremendous access issues to eye-witnesses wishing to testify in court; many of them (who were Alexis’ friends) are juveniles and traveling away from Athens for a few days is near-impossible.
One of the alleged “key eye-witnesses”, named Anta Tsormpatzioudi, has now proven to be a perjurer (false witness), willingly lying to court. Her original testimony had been accepted by the court, causing the lawyers of Alexis’ family to resign in protest (the trial continues with new lawyers).
The testimony by Ms. Tsormpatzioudi was key, as her supposed “eye-witness account” was used for the reconstruction of the murder. However, a court order to publicise the mobile phone conversations between Tsormpatzioudi and a chief police-man of the local police station of Exarcheia (called Dimos Minoudis) reveals that the two had frequent conversations (that they had denied in court) – the first being three hours after Alexis’ assassination and continuing up until a few days prior to, and on the actual day of the re-enactment of the murder.
A friend of Alexis’ who was next to him when he was assassinated (we had spoken with him then), now 17 years old, has denied to appear in court, as he claims to be under police surveillance and fears for his life – while he has also declared he has no faith in the trial process. The court has issued an order for the violent transfer of the teenager to court; he has now gone into hiding.
Meanwhile, one riot policeman who was present at the scene also testified yesterday, claiming that the situation at the spot prior to the assassination was calm – and in this way contradicting the statements of every single other policeman – who were claiming that the shooting took place amidst rioting…

Anarchists solidarity protest outside Korydallos prison, the main prison in Athens, at the time of the change of the year. This protest happens every New Year's Eve for the past six years.
