#232| Welcoming a new squat in Athens
Athens seems to be going through exceptionally tough times: austerity measures that make society kneel under great pressure are put to practice, police units are stationed in every single block downtown, the big unions (GSEE, ADEDY) are completely silent, while demonstrations are weak, with little participation and even less passion. And yet, although society seems to be numb and not to know how to react against the intensifying pressure from all sides (needless to mention that the mass media have been very creative in the way they combine terrorism with the anarchist/antiauthoritarian movement every single day on the news), a new squat is born in the neighborhood of Marousi (northern suburb of Athens).
In their introductory text they write, among other things:
“While many young people have no interest in what is going on in society, and spend their time in clubs and internet cafes, our need and desire to articulate political discourse through various actions and to resist the repression, breach and limitation of our rights, in a society which has enrichment and individualism as its sole values, all the above urged us to create a free space where we will have the opportunity to self-organize”.
“Thus we decided, being a group of people who identify ourselves as part of the anarchist/ antiauthoritarian movement, to occupy the Kouvelou Mansion on 7 April, and to create an open social center where we will house, anti-hierarchically, our political and social beliefs. Away from the influence of political parties, with self-organization as our basic principle, we long to transform this building into a hub of counter-information, events, discussions and various forms of action. Our goal is to make it a lively part of the city, open to all”.
“We consider it our right to have a space where we will develop our activities. It is our aim to contribute to social demands and struggles against all forms of power.”
With self-organization and solidarity as our weapon, we walk on the path towards freedom.
Party and discussion on Sunday 11 April at 12pm.

Latest news on Tamara’s situation
From Klinamen:
Four months have passed since December 15, when they abducted our friend and comrade Tamara. Even today, her mail is still being confiscated, and it is impossible for her to communicate with people outside her family.
On the legal end, an appeal was filed in which the letter-bomb’s contents were analyzed and its possible effects assessed. This assessment was positive for our comrade, since it confirmed that the letter-bomb she is charged with sending could not possibly have caused serious harm. Let’s remember that the reasons why our comrade currently finds herself in preventive detention are the severe charges she is facing, which would be refuted with this new information.
The appeal was denied in principle by the judge, so the same appeal was filed today in provincial court with the aim of securing our comrade’s conditional liberty pending trial, since the arguments for continuing her preventive detention are based solely on her abductors’ opinions and their desire to keep her locked up.
Whether or not she is responsible for sending the letter-bomb, we believe that this series of “coincidences” is a result of the anti-prison struggle and the constant solidarity shown by our comrade with all those who, in one way or another, are suffering the abuses of power. It’s an inconvenience to the state that there are people like Tamara who struggle every day to expose all the shit hidden and suppressed behind the prison walls. These are the consequences.
Therefore, we demand that our comrade be set free. And we encourage everyone to go out and show solidarity with her and all those who, at this very moment, are suffering the abuses of this rotten system.
FOR AN END TO PRISONS!!!!

Police academy attacked near Atocha station in Madrid
April 5, 2010
Early Saturday morning, the entrance to a training facility for police and other servants of the state was attacked with stones. As long as they continue to imprison and beat us, as long as they exist, they will be thrashed. We attacked this academy with ease. Every one of us can spread revolt. Let’s attack all those who defend the state, who protect the dominators and their laws in order to keep the state functioning. Let’s stop the destruction of the Earth, let’s stop this barbarism. Let’s leave defensive strategy behind and begin the attack.
For Tamara, for all the imprisoned comrades, for the caged and tortured animals!

Letter from the 17yearold witness of Alexis murder. 8/4/2010
"My initiative to write and publicise my position and clarify the reasons why I am not going to appear in court came after reading and seeing the publications and following the development of both them and the development of the trial.
After taking a look at the media publications and what Mr Kougias said, I believe I'm obliged to take a position against him since he decided to do the same against me.
As for him not participating in the trial if I do not appear to testify, I state that with great happiness and impatience I wait for his non-participation and also his ridiculous statements, that only make me laugh.
As for the second part where he refers to my involvement in far left organizations, cooperation with criminals and other ridiculous things like that, i would like to say that they are just conspiracy theories of an imaginative lawyer who likes to create impressions and tries every way possible to cling on to timelines, regardless of whether they are positive or negative for him.
Nothing more than a mythomaniac "Karagiozakos" who has knowledge of the criminal code and likes to suck as much disclosure as possible, playing either the role of a victim (beaten, fainting etc.) or that of a consequential professional.
As for the announcement from the police that they are not monitoring my every move, all I have to say is that saying that they are not following me around everywhere is like saying that Korkoneas did not shoot Alexis.
Id like also to clarify here that besides the publications, I had no intention to appear in court anyway because I'm not at all interested in the outcome of this trial. I consider it my political choice to not appear when the institution tells me to, but to express my point of view when and how I choose to.
So, I wish good luck to Mr Kougias and his client, and I challenge the Greek police to do their job, if they have the specific ability"
The attempted cover-up of Alexis’ murder
translate from after the greek riots blog.
From tragedy to farce and back again: a few notes on the ongoing trial of Alexis’ murderers
The trial of Epaminondas Korkoneas and Vassilis Saraliotis, the two cop-killers of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, has been taking place in the remote town of Amfissa (230 km away from Athens) since mid-February. Away from the chaotic times of Athens, an outrageous cover-up of the murder is being attempted by the cops’ lawyer (Kougias) and largely assisted, it seems, by the court’s judge.
- First, the decision to hold the trial so far away from Athens (apparently for security reasons) causes tremendous access issues to eye-witnesses wishing to testify in court; many of them (who were Alexis’ friends) are juveniles and traveling away from Athens for a few days is near-impossible.
- One of the alleged “key eye-witnesses”, named Anta Tsormpatzioudi, has now proven to be a perjurer (false witness), willingly lying to court. Her original testimony had been accepted by the court, causing the lawyers of Alexis’ family to resign in protest (the trial continues with new lawyers).
- The testimony by Ms. Tsormpatzioudi was key, as her supposed “eye-witness account” was used for the reconstruction of the murder. However, a court order to publicise the mobile phone conversations between Tsormpatzioudi and a chief police-man of the local police station of Exarcheia (called Dimos Minoudis) reveals that the two had frequent conversations (that they had denied in court) – the first being three hours after Alexis’ assassination and continuing up until a few days prior to, and on the actual day of the re-enactment of the murder.
- A friend of Alexis’ who was next to him when he was assassinated (we had spoken with him then), now 17 years old, has denied to appear in court, as he claims to be under police surveillance and fears for his life – while he has also declared he has no faith in the trial process. The court has issued an order for the violent transfer of the teenager to court; he has now gone into hiding.
- Meanwhile, one riot policeman who was present at the scene also testified yesterday, claiming that the situation at the spot prior to the assassination was calm – and in this way contradicting the statements of every single other policeman – who were claiming that the shooting took place amidst rioting…
The “trial” continues.
Update on Alexis murderers trial. 7/4/2010
The main witness,a 17yearold, has not appeared yet to testify against epaminontas korkoneas and vassilis saraliwtis, the cops who murdered Alexis Grigoropoulos in athens in december 2008. because of this, their lawer, the scum alexis kougias demanded fromthe court that he is brought in by force. According to the court, the youth that was holding alexis as he died, is the main witness. The youth was suppose to appear today but dint show.
His lawer said that the youth does not want to appear because he is in constant police surveilance and is still psycologically unfit to testify. He also mention that if the police dont stop following him around he wont come in to testify at all. The judge said that the courts leniency towards the witness, whos testimony is very important to the case, has worn out and asked for his forceful appearance.
- The murderers lawer alexis kougias said that the witness is not appearing because hes trying to make a joke of the court. He also claimed that the 17yearold witness along with the other eye witnesses examined by the court, are members of the youth organization "Communist Liberation" and that they have a dangerous anti-governmental attitude and that they are trying to manipulate the trial through other ways.

uprising in Kyrgyzstan
(Reuters) – Kyrgyz troops opened fire on thousands of anti-government protesters on Wednesday outside the offices where President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was sheltering after clashes that killed at least 17 people, a Reuters witness said.
A group of at least 10 government soldiers were shooting with automatic weapons from the government headquarters toward protesters, a Reuters cameraman said.
There was intense gunfire in the center of the capital and a series of blasts, a Reuters reporter said. Protesters were dragging wounded people covered in blood away from the square.
The Kyrgyz Kabar news agency said 17 people had been killed and 142 people were wounded as demonstrators attempted to topple the president of the impoverished Central Asian state of 5.3 million people.
But an emergency services official said more than 50 people may have been killed.
Huge plumes of black smoke were billowing around the city center. A group of protesters, waving red-and-yellow Kyrgyz flags, arrived in the main square atop an armored personnel carrier seized from the military.
Ex-Soviet Kyrgyzstan hosts a U.S. military air base that helps support troops in Afghanistan, as well as a Russian base.
Kyrgyz Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov, who earlier dismissed the protesters in Talas as “bandits,” told Reuters by telephone that he and the president were both working in their offices.
“We daren’t even look out of the window,” Kamil Sydykov, the prime minister’s spokesman, said by telephone from inside the presidential building.
Some 1,000 people stormed the prosecutor-general’s office in the capital and were breaking windows and tossing out computers and office equipment, a Reuters reporter said. Opposition activists also took control of state television channel KTR.
“The political violence is likely to continue in Kyrgyzstan,” said Lilit Gevorgyan, political analyst at IHS Global Insight. “Given (Bakiyev’s) resolve in recent years to concentrate power in his hands only, it is difficult to see how a political compromise may be found.”
Kyrgyzstan receives aid from both Russia and the United States as well as from neighboring China. Bishkek also relies on remittances from migrant workers in Russia; payments that have dwindled in the last year as Russia’s economy has suffered.
“The country still has an inherent vulnerability which in an environment of economic dislocation can easily be sparked off into a new cycle of violence,” said Christopher Granville of Trusted Sources Research in London.
“The drop in remittances is a very important part of the explanation for the latest civic violence,” he said.
UNREST SPREADS
Protesters seized government buildings in three other towns. In one town, Talas, Kyrgyz First Deputy Prime Minister Aklybek Japarov and Interior Minister Moldomusa Kongantiyev were badly beaten. Kongantiyev was forced to shout: “Down with Bakiyev!,” two witnesses said.
The opposition in Kyrgyzstan has been demanding that Bakiyev, who himself came to power in a popular revolt in 2005, tackle corruption and fire his relatives from senior positions.
Russia called for restraint. “We would like to make an urgent appeal to the hostile parties to refrain from the use of force to avoid bloodshed,” Andrei Nesterenko, spokesman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, said in a statement.
The Kyrgyz government declared a state of emergency and said a curfew would be enforced between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in Bishkek and three other regions of Kyrgyzstan.
Bakiyev, from the south of Kyrgyzstan, has angered clans from Bishkek, Talas and other regions by appointing in his own kinsmen to senior positions, and excluding others from power, said Reinhard Krumm, director of a Moscow think-tank.
The protests spread to the capital after riots which began in Talas the day before and continued into Wednesday.
“We will stay here until the end, no matter what the government does,” Talas Kadyraliyev, a 45-year-old local opposition activist, told Reuters from the scene.
In Naryn, a town in central Kyrgyzstan, more than 1,000 opponents of the president also took over the local government building, witnesses told Reuters. The government headquarters in a southern village, Kerben, were also occupied by protesters.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Bishkek last week and called on the government to do more to protect human rights.

US anti-police protests kick off
A WAVE of protests against police brutality have kicked off in the North West of the United States of America.
Reported the Associated Press: "Police arrested 29 people after an anti-police march in Olympia Thursday night turned violent.
"Cmdr. Tor Bjornstad said Friday that officers were monitoring about three-dozen people dressed in black, wearing masks and calling themselves anarchists. The group started marching downtown about 7 p.m. Thursday, chanting obscenities at the police.
"By 9 p.m., they had spray-painted the camera of a photographer for The Olympian and tried to take the camera and his cell phone, Bjornstad said. They also spray-painted buildings, broke windows and threw newspaper boxes into the street.
"Officers surrounded the group and made the arrests.
"Two officers were hit — one in the head and one in the groin — and those two attackers were booked for investigation of felony assault, Bjornstad said."
"Two people who attacked the photographer were booked for investigation of assault."The rest were booked for investigation of riotous conduct and released overnight with charges referred to the prosecutor.
"Bjornstad said there was no identifiable group responsible for the demonstration, but most of the marchers are college age. He said it may be related to similar protests in Portland, where hundreds have marched through downtown streets in recent weeks to decry two fatal shootings by officers."
And then, the next day, there were further anti-police protests and five more arrests in Seattle.
The Seattle Times reported: "Seattle Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said the five were arrested during a march in the Capitol Hill neighborhood Friday afternoon for investigation of crimes ranging from trespassing to inciting a riot."A fire has damaged part of a luxury hotel and private members club in central London.

Italy, Lecco - bug found in a comrade's car
A few days ago a comrade in Lecco found unwanted guests in his car. Some nice bastard had in fact placed, linking it to the electricity supply of the light of the passenger seat, a bug made from a modified cellphone, and aerial, a Gps sensor and a microphone (see photographs). The instrument was placed between the bodywork and the inside covering, fixed by two magnets.

A moment of shame you scum
Even if just for a second, shut up.
No more screams and dramatic descriptions of terror from you, slimy
"police editors" that feed off the blood of victims
and police information.
Shut up.
No more sociological analysis about everyday racism and class
contrasts, from you, filthy rich tv wisemen journalists that sterilely look at life
through the tinted windows of your bulletproof taxfree 4x4s.
Shut up.
No more lessons of democratic boxing from you,
the psycopath, megalomaniac minister of the paragovernment
and from you, the oppositionist irresponsible honourers of safety.
Shut up.
No more shows of wretched "colleague solidarity", for every stupid thing,
from you, professional syndicalists of the
amateur police on the tabloid windows.
Shut up.
No more hypocrisy. Shut up all of you.
You drown reality and you don't leave the genuine and real mourn
for a 15 year old kid that was murdered. Shut up and allow for once the
human truth, the scream for loss, to be heard.
In our garbage, the waste of our greedy consumption, which is the reason
for the slaughterhouse you call, by agreement, all you petty misanthropes,
a "democratic society", thats where the dreams of a kid vanished.
Subproducts of the sepsis of the proud "Greek Democracy" are what
exploded in his hands, we all more or less have his blood on us, but you drink and
enjoy it.
Shut up leeches.
Most, those who don't have and can't "hold" themselves, those who are the silent
majority were hurt, mad and ashamed, They bowed their head when they heard the
news and mourned for a life that didn't get to live. They were ashamed because they
felt co-responsibility for the society they created.
All of us that see our children's lives compressed in the meat grater,
lets make them shut up. All of us that will never segregate the value of the life of
15 year old Alexandros from the one of a 15 year old murdered immigrant, let's make
our silence so loud that we make them shut up.
Since they don't feel shame, they should shut up. All those shameless that dare to
sell the pieces of a body,of a 15 year old kid for a bit more money, for another step
higher in the climbing struggle with their ego as an opponent.
Let's make them shut up since they can't feel a moment of shame....
