In the last week of November machines at Mainshill were sabotaged. Twelve machines had hydraulics and electrics cut, these included dumper trucks, fuel tanks, a digger and bulldozers.
Mainshill has been operational since spring this year, it is part of Scottish Coal's programme of open cast mining in the Douglas valley, South Lanarkshire. This is causing ill health to local people and destroying their surroundings, it fails to provide jobs and lines the pockets of the bosses and politicians. On top of this the mining and burning of coal is a leading cause of climate change which is wiping out ecosystems and people around the world.
This action was intended to hamper the extraction of coal, cost Scottish Coal money and as an act of solidarity with everyone struggling against the coal industry.
